Windows notifications New

Notifications from your apps and browsers, like messages, mail or sites you allowed, show in Poni as they arrive. Poni reads them from Windows on your PC, and can keep Windows from showing them a second time. This is off at first.

Settings → Notifications

Turning it on

  1. Open Settings → Notifications and turn on Show Windows notifications in Poni.
  2. Leave Don’t show them twice on if you want notifications to show only in Poni.
  3. Set how long each one shows with Show each for.

What you see

When a notification arrives, a card shows under the closed Poni, below whatever else is showing there (the song, the clock, lyrics). It has the picture (a sender's photo, say, or the app's icon), the app's name, the title and the text. The next ones pile up on top of it, newest first. Up to four cards show at once; the rest say +N more. While Poni is open, a new one also shows briefly in its top bar.

  • Each card goes away by itself when its time is up, set with Show each for. Pick Until I close it to keep cards until you close them.
  • Point at a card to show its X and close it. While the mouse is on Poni the time waits, so nothing disappears while you read. Poni also doesn't open on hover while notifications show; click the top of Poni to open it.
  • Click a card to bring its app's window to the front, or start the app if it isn't open; the card then goes. Poni opens the app, not the exact chat or email.
  • Browser notifications show too, since Chrome and Edge send theirs through Windows, as do other browsers that use Windows notifications.

Not twice

With Don’t show them twice, Poni turns off Windows' own pop-up for each app it has shown a notification from. That's the same as turning off Show notification banners for that app in Windows Settings. The notifications still collect in the Windows notification center (Win+N), so nothing is lost.

Windows' pop-ups come back the way they were when you turn this or Show Windows notifications in Poni off, and when Poni quits. Settings you had already changed yourself are left alone.

The first notification from an app Poni hasn't seen before may still pop up once in Windows. After that, that app shows only in Poni.
