Screen Time

See where your time at the PC goes: the apps you use most, what kind of work it is, and the hours you're most active. The data stays on this PC.

Settings → Screen Time

How Poni counts

  • Only the app in the foreground (the active window) is counted, second by second.
  • If you don't touch the mouse or keyboard for longer than Stop counting after idle (120 seconds by default), counting pauses until you're active again.
  • The lock screen isn't counted.
  • Every time you switch to another app, Poni adds one app switch.

Each app goes into one category: Browsing, Development, Communication, Entertainment, Productivity, Creativity, System or Other. For browsers, Poni looks at the title of the open tab. For example YouTube counts as Entertainment, GitHub as Development, Gmail as Communication, Google Docs as Productivity and Instagram as Social. Other tabs stay under Browsing.

What the Screen Time tab shows

  • Donut: the total time in the middle, colored by category. Next to it, the top categories and their time.
  • Hourly bars: your use in each hour of the day. In the Today view, the current hour is highlighted.
  • App switches: how often you switched apps, and the app you're using now (now: …).
  • Most used: the 7 apps you used longest, with their icons and times.

Click Today for today or 7 days for the last seven days. While the tab is open, the numbers update every 10 seconds.

Options

OptionWhat it does
Track screen timeRecords how long you use each app. When off, Poni stops recording; earlier data stays. Default: on.
Stop counting after idleSeconds without mouse or keyboard before counting pauses, 30 to 600. Default: 120 s.
Excluded appsApps that aren't counted at all. Type their .exe file names separated by commas, for example keepass.exe, steam.exe. Switching to these apps doesn't count as an app switch either. Default: empty.

Do you often watch long videos without touching the mouse? Raise Stop counting after idle, for example to 600 seconds, so that time still counts. You can find an app's .exe name in Task Manager, on the Details tab.

Dashboard widget

Choose Screen time in Settings → Dashboard. The widget shows today's total, the app you used most and a color bar by category. Click it to open the Screen Time tab.

The data is saved in screentime.json in Poni's data folder (%APPDATA%\Poni, also shown in Settings → About). Poni keeps the last 35 days and removes older ones. Nothing is sent to the internet.
