Prayer Times New
Reminders for the five daily prayers where you are. In Indonesia Poni uses the official Kemenag RI schedule for your regency or city, the same table mosques use.
Settings → Prayer Times
Where the times come from
- In Indonesia: the Kemenag RI schedule for each regency or city (Bimas Islam data via api.myquran.com). This is the official table mosques use, not Poni's own calculation.
- Everywhere else: Aladhan, with the method of your country's authority, chosen from the city's coordinates. For example JAKIM in Malaysia, MUIS in Singapore, Diyanet in Türkiye, Umm al-Qura in Saudi Arabia, ISNA in North America, or the Muslim World League.
If the Kemenag server can't be reached, Poni uses Aladhan's Kemenag method for the time being, adjusted to match the Kemenag table. The source then reads Kemenag RI method (Aladhan). Next time Poni tries the Kemenag table again.
Turning it on
- Open Settings → Prayer Times.
- Turn on Prayer time reminders. It's off until you do.
- Check the city under Location. Poni starts with the same city as Weather, marked (same as Weather).
- Under the switch you now see Today · place, the source (for example Source: Kemenag RI) and today's five prayer times. Compare them with your local mosque.
Location
City: the city for the prayer times. Want a different city from Weather? Type it in the Search a city… box, press Enter or click the magnifier, then click the city. To go back to the Weather city, click Use the Weather city.
Kemenag regency / city: this row appears when your city is in Indonesia and Method is Automatic. Poni matches your city to the Kemenag list by itself: first a KOTA (city) with that name, then a KAB. (regency), then the first result. Matched to your city automatically means Poni made the choice.
Sometimes the automatic match isn't the right one. Say you live in Bogor Regency, but Poni picked KOTA BOGOR (Bogor City). To change it:
- In the Kemenag regency / city row, type the area in the e.g. Bekasi, Sleman… box, for example
Bogor. Use at least 3 letters. - Press Enter or click the magnifier.
- Click KAB. BOGOR in the results.
If nothing matches, try just the regency or city name, without “Kota” or “Kab.”. To go back to the automatic match, click Automatic. Picking a new City also resets the Kemenag choice to automatic.
Method and Asr
Method starts as Automatic: the authority for your location: the Kemenag table in Indonesia, and the local authority's method elsewhere. You can also pick a method yourself: Kemenag RI (Indonesia), JAKIM (Malaysia), MUIS (Singapore), Diyanet (Türkiye), Umm al-Qura (Makkah), Muslim World League, ISNA (North America), Egyptian General Authority of Survey, University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi, Dubai, Gulf Region, Kuwait, Qatar, UOIF (France), Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Russia, Morocco, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria or Portugal.
In Indonesia, any method other than Automatic means Aladhan calculates the times instead of reading the Kemenag table, and the Kemenag regency / city row goes away. If you pick Kemenag RI (Indonesia) by hand, the calculation is adjusted to come close to the Kemenag table.
Asr: choose Standard (Shafi’i, Maliki, Hanbali) or Hanafi, whichever school you follow. Default: Standard.
The Asr choice only changes times from Aladhan. The Kemenag table has its own Asr times, so in Indonesia with Method on Automatic it changes nothing.
Countdown and reminders
Count down before each prayer shows a countdown in the closed Poni before each prayer. Choose Off, 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes. Default: 10 minutes.
For example, with 10 minutes and Maghrib at 17:58, from 17:48 Poni shows a mosque icon, Maghrib and the time left (9:59, 9:58, …). At first the countdown shows on its own for a moment, and Poni comes down even when Auto-hide is on. After that it takes turns with other activities such as music or Pomodoro.
When it's time:
- If Poni is closed, the prayer name and time show for 20 seconds, and Poni bounces if Bounce on events is on.
- If Poni is open, a short notice appears at its top for 8 seconds.
- If Sound when it’s time is on, you hear a short chime. Default: on.
Each prayer is announced once. If the PC was asleep and wakes more than 10 minutes after the time, Poni doesn't send a late reminder.
If you turned off Live activities while Poni is closed (Settings → Live Activities), the countdown only shows briefly at the start. The reminder at prayer time still comes.
Choosing which prayers
Under Reminders there are five switches: Subuh · Fajr, Dzuhur · Dhuhr, Ashar · Asr, Maghrib and Isya · Isha. All are on to start. A prayer you turn off gets no countdown and no reminder, and is skipped when Poni works out the next prayer.
Dashboard widget
Open Settings → Dashboard and choose Prayer times for one of the four widget spots. The widget's title shows the next prayer and the time left, for example Asr · 1h 20m. Below are today's five times: the next one is highlighted and the ones that have passed are dimmed. Hover over the widget to see the place and the source. If reminders are still off, the widget says Turn them on in Settings → Prayer Times.
Next prayer in the closed Poni
Open Settings → General → Closed Poni and choose Next prayer for Left side or Right side. While nothing else is going on, the closed Poni shows the next prayer and its time, for example Isha 19:08. See The closed Poni.
Works offline
Poni gets a whole month of times at once and keeps it on this PC, so reminders keep working without internet. It fetches again by itself when you change the city, the method or the Asr choice.
If you're offline and no times are saved yet, Poni shows Couldn’t get prayer times. Check the internet connection. and tries again every minute. If there's no city at all, it says Pick a city under Prayer Times or Weather.
To get the times, Poni sends only the city's coordinates or its Kemenag code. Nothing else goes with it.
Prayer names
The names follow your city's country. In Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore: Subuh, Dzuhur, Ashar, Maghrib, Isya. Everywhere else: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha.
