GitHub
See the pull requests waiting for your review, and your own if you like, right in Poni. All you need is a read-only GitHub token.
Settings → GitHub
1. Create a token on GitHub
- Sign in at github.com, click your profile picture at the top right, then Settings.
- At the bottom of the left menu, click Developer settings.
- Click Personal access tokens → Fine-grained tokens → Generate new token.
- Fill in Token name, for example
Poni, and choose an Expiration. - Under Repository access, choose All repositories, or Only select repositories if you only want some.
- Under Permissions, give Pull requests Read-only access. That's all Poni needs.
- Click Generate token and copy the token (it starts with
github_pat_). GitHub shows it only once.
A token only sees the repositories you allow. For repositories that belong to an organization, choose that organization as the Resource owner when you create the token. Some organizations have to approve a token before it works.
2. Add the token to Poni
- Open Settings → GitHub.
- Paste the token in the Personal access token box, then click Save or press Enter.
- ● Saved (encrypted with Windows DPAPI) appears. The token is stored encrypted on this PC.
- Open Settings → Modules and turn on GitHub. The tab is off until you do.
To remove the token, click the trash button next to Save.
What the GitHub tab shows
- At the top: the counts, for example 3 to review · 2 yours · updated 4m ago, and a Refresh button.
- Each pull request: the author's picture, the title, the repository and number, the author, when it was last updated and how many comments it has.
- A label on the right: REVIEW (your review is requested), DRAFT (still a draft) or YOURS (a pull request you opened).
Click a pull request to open it in your browser. Poni updates the list every 5 minutes, or right away when you click Refresh. When nothing is waiting, it says No pull requests waiting. Inbox zero!
Options
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| GitHub module | Fetches pull requests from GitHub. When off, Poni stops fetching. Default: on. |
| Personal access token | Your GitHub token, stored encrypted with Windows DPAPI. Default: empty. |
| Also show pull requests I opened | Also lists open pull requests you created, labeled YOURS. Default: on. |
If something's wrong
- Add a GitHub token in Settings → GitHub: no token is saved yet. Click Set up to open Settings → GitHub.
- GitHub is turned off: a token is saved, but GitHub module is off. Turn it back on in Settings → GitHub.
- Token rejected (401). Create a new token in Settings → GitHub.: the token is wrong, was deleted or has expired. Create a new one and paste it in.
- GitHub HTTP with another number: GitHub refused the request. Try Refresh again a bit later.
The token is only sent to GitHub (api.github.com) to get your list of pull requests.
